Kandachi Bhaaji

Purple Yam or Kanda/Kon is available during winter season along with Surti Papdi (for undhiyu). It tastes amazing. Apart from its use in Undhiyu, you may make Bhaji, Kandache Kaap, Kandache Thalipeeth etc.

Kandachi Bhaaji is a very very simple recipe. It does not require much ingredients since Kanda itself is very tasty.


1/4 Kg. purple yam
1 tablespoon oil
1 green chilly (finely chopped)
5-6 curry leaves
1/2 tspoon mustard
1/2 tspoon cumin seeds (Jeera)
A pinch of asafoetida (Hing)


Cook purple yam in pressure cooker
Cut it into small squares
Heat oil in a pan
Add cumin seeds, mustad, asafoetida
Now add curry leaves and chilly to the tadka
Finally add cooked purple yam to it
Saute it for 5-6 minutes over medium flame
Serve hot with roti
